Gay Louisiana

About gay pride parade and fight for gay rights in Louisiana.

In order to inform the world that they still exist, a “gay” pride parade is held weekly by the homosexuals of Louisiana. Every week, different parts of the city play host to this Gay Louisiana pride parade, which starts at about 5 pm. The number of gays taking part in this Gays of Louisiana parade runs into hundreds as it serves as a big morale-booster for them. By means of peaceful demonstrations, the gays endeavor to inform the world about their rights.

The demands of the Gays of Louisiana include marriage, adoption and special protections. However, the unfair and biased policies of the government lead to discriminations against them and they are often the victims of state law.

In Louisiana, the state law bans gay marriages and the anti-gay marriage amendment has been reinstated by the Louisiana Supreme Court. The legal status for common-law relationships, domestic partnerships and civil unions between the Gays of Louisiana had been prevented from getting recognized by the state due to this amendment.

The Gays of Louisiana had expressed their reservations that the amendment would not only prevent all unmarried couples - whether gay or heterosexual from enjoying their contractual rights but it would also have other ulterior motives and as such it could not become the constitution’s part. However, these contentions of the Gays of Louisiana were rejected by the Supreme Court, which felt that the benefits for same-sex partners, inheritance rights and hospital visitation rights for gay partners of Louisiana would be nullified by the amendment.

This led the Anti-gay marriage groups to express their outrage with the attorneys becoming adamant on appealing. In view of the anger of gays, a state judge annulled a Louisiana constitutional amendment banning gay marriages on the grounds that the state law was being violated by the amendment because it not only banned gay marriage but it had another objective of banning civil unions.

Gay marriages have, as a result of the above, become legal in Louisiana, which is good news for Gays of Louisiana.
